Federal Work-Study Student Assistant
The College of Engineering and Architecture's Office of the Dean seeks a FWS Student Assistant for the 2025–2026 academic year. The role is open to Howard University Architecture and Engineering majors and other students with strong communication skills. The primary role will be to serve as a “frontline” agent of the office, to greet and provide professional and attentive customer service to students, faculty, and other guests.
Essential Job Functions:
- To engage and direct student, parent, and university stakeholders upon entering the office and evaluate needs to ensure the most efficient path and/or administrator to address concerns.
- To complete administrative and clerical tasks as assigned by administrative/staff officers, including answering the phone, organizing and distributing mail.
- To demonstrate the ability to effectively prioritize and execute multiple tasks and activities within a designated timeframe and given resources.
- Assist with planning and executing CEA events.
- To work on special projects as assigned.
- To maintain cleanliness for the front desk, copy room, conference room, waiting lounge, and other office spaces. Including restocking supplies and removal of outdated materials/items.
- Report on needs in the space: cleaning supplies, office supplies, and more.
- Support CEA Office of the Dean initiatives as needed.
Qualifications:
- Currently qualified for Federal Work-Study
- Strong writing ability and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
- Ability to work both independently and with others.
- Ability to demonstrate a positive and proactive professional disposition in appropriate dress and office decorum required for an Executive Office.
- Ability to handle crises, sensitive topics, and maintain confidentiality.
- Must be able to lift twenty-five (25) pounds.
