Position Overview:
The Annenberg Honors Program (AHP) within the School of Communications is seeking a reliable, organized, and communicative Federal Work-Study student to assist the Director and Graduate/Program Assistant in supporting the operations, outreach, and development efforts of the School’s noted honors program. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain professional experience in higher education, communications, and donor relations. The Annenberg Honors program is one of four school/college honors programs at Howard University and is committed to student-centered scholarship and culturally grounded academic inquiry under the motto, “Excellence Without Excuse!” This opportunity provides a professional and engaging environment where students can develop essential skills, build meaningful connections, and gain experience that will enhance their academic journey and support their long-term career goals. Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the coordination of communications with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, and potential donors
- Draft, proofread, and send professional emails and written correspondence on behalf of the AHP
- Maintain organized records of alumni and donor engagement efforts
- Assist in scheduling meetings, tracking communications, and following up with key contacts
- Provide content for social media platforms
- Support planning and logistics for AHP events and activities
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all communications and interactions
- Perform other administrative tasks and special projects as assigned by the Director or Graduate/Program Assistant
Qualifications:
- Must be eligible for the Federal Work-Study program
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and follow through with minimal supervision
- Proficient in email and calendar management (e.g., Gmail/Outlook, Google Calendar)
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
- Interest or experience in higher education, alumni relations, or communications is a plus
Work Environment:
- Primarily in-person at the School of Communications
- Remote work available as approved by the supervisor
- Flexible scheduling around class commitments
