Job Summary:
The Blackburn University Center is seeking a responsible and motivated Federal Work-Study student to serve as an Event Assistant. This position supports the daily operations of the Center by assisting with event setup and breakdown, preparing rooms for scheduled functions, and providing general support for meetings and events. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and willing to work collaboratively to ensure a welcoming and professional environment for all guests.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with event setup and breakdown, including arranging tables, chairs, podiums, staging, and audiovisual equipment as needed.
- Set up rooms for meetings, conferences, and events according to event specifications.
- Ensure event spaces are clean, orderly, and ready for use.
- Support staff during events to address logistical needs.
- Assist with the movement and storage of equipment and supplies.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall operations of the Blackburn University Center.
Qualifications:
- Must be a Howard University student with Federal Work-Study eligibility.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to lift and move equipment, furniture, and supplies (up to 40 lbs).
- Punctual, dependable, and professional in demeanor.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, based on event schedules.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Work Environment:
This position requires physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting. The Event Assistant will work in a fast-paced environment that serves students, faculty, staff, alumni, and external guests.
