Location: Washington, DC (In-Office)
Duration: Three (3) months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs
Schedule: Part-time (15–25 hours per week, flexible within standard business hours)
Compensation: $17.95 per hour
Reports To: Digital Marketing Manager

Position Overview
AL-Monitor is seeking a Marketing Intern (Email & Marketing Operations) to support key initiatives related to email service provider (ESP) migration, marketing documentation, and the development of automated email journeys. This internship is ideal for students or early-career professionals interested in digital marketing, subscription growth strategy, and marketing operations within a newsroom environment in Washington, DC.
The Marketing Intern will assist in the transition between email platforms, help document workflows and processes, and contribute to the creation and optimization of email templates and subscriber journeys that support audience engagement and retention.

Key Responsibilities
Email Service Provider (ESP) Migration Support
- Assist with the migration of email marketing assets, lists, templates, and automations to a new ESP platform.
- Support quality assurance testing of migrated templates, automations, and subscriber workflows.
- Help ensure data accuracy and list integrity during migration.
- Document migration processes and create internal reference materials.
Email Marketing & Template Creation
- Assist in designing and building responsive email templates aligned with AL-Monitor’s brand standards.
- Support the development of automated email journeys (e.g., onboarding, retention, re-engagement, event promotion).
- Draft and format marketing emails in collaboration with editorial and marketing teams.
- Optimize email subject lines, CTAs, and layouts to support engagement and conversion goals.
Marketing Operations & Documentation
- Create and maintain documentation for marketing workflows, campaign calendars, and automation processes.
- Help streamline internal processes related to email marketing and subscriber communications.
- Support compliance with email marketing best practices (CAN-SPAM, data privacy considerations).
Performance Tracking & Optimization
- Assist in tracking and reporting on email performance metrics (open rates, click-through rates, conversions).
- Conduct basic A/B testing analysis and summarize findings.
- Support broader marketing reporting efforts related to subscription growth and audience engagement.
Qualifications
Required
- Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate in marketing, communications, business, journalism, or a related field.
- Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with email marketing platforms (e.g.,HubSpot, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Campaign Monitor, or similar).
- Basic understanding of digital marketing principles and subscriber funnels.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Interest in data-driven decision-making.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred
- Experience building email templates using drag-and-drop editors or basic HTML.
- Familiarity with marketing automation workflows and customer journey mapping.
- Experience with analytics tools such as Google Analytics or native ESP reporting dashboards.
- Interest in subscription-based media, journalism, or global affairs.
