Marine Data Scientist Summer Internship
Marine Data Scientist Summer Internship
Summary / Description
The intern will experiment with using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to assist COE in selecting appropriate AI/ML models from publicly available databases and hosting them on CUBEnet-a regional ocean observing network. The intern will experiment with different AI/ML models using a variety of datasets such as oceanographic, atmospheric, acoustic, and optical data collected by data buoys, satellites, and uncrewed marine systems. The intern will host the AI/ML models on COE server and run the models to output the model results on a custom-built web interface. Time permitting, the intern will explore the application of generative AI for purposes of ocean science data analysis. With all tasks, the focus will be on tracking accuracy and utility of AI tools and prompts. The intern will learn about the end-to-end AI/ML model implementation pipelines. The intern will gain skills in applying AI/ML application to the ocean science data and gain practical experience to implement AI/ML in real world. The intern will be expected to work independently to some extent, but the mentor will be available for guidance whenever it is needed. There will be an opportunity to work with other experts in the COE.
