The role

Are you an enthusiastic, committed individual who loves being in a classroom helping kids learn and solve problems? CodeSpeak Labs and Quest Craft seek a Game-Based Learning Instructor to join a dedicated team of coaches who lead instruction for 1) coding lessons and 2) tabletop role-playing games.

  1. Coding and technology instruction: Game-Based Learning Instructors lead in-class CodeSpeak Labs lessons designed to progressively develop students’ coding skills through age-appropriate activities like creating their own apps and games. Candidates ideally have a computer science background (HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Python), but we will consider individuals with no prior experience who have strong teaching skills and are committed to learning.
  2. Role-playing game sessions: In addition to in-class coding lessons, the Game-Based Learning Instructor will also visit classrooms to lead tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) for Quest Craft, which operates in partnership with CodeSpeak Foundation. Quest Craft is a game platform that offers original, culturally inclusive TTRPGs for elementary and middle school students, helping them develop communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills through role-playing games. Instructors will guide these collaborative games in student settings by managing game flow, pacing, and group dynamics while fostering an inclusive environment where students feel safe, heard, and excited to participate.

Requirements

  • Infectious Enthusiasm!: You believe all kids can learn to code and express creativity.
  • Experience working with youth, especially as a teacher, tutor, or counselor.
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly: You love feedback and constant improvement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: You can motivate students across age groups and backgrounds.
  • Computer science (CS) skills: We will consider candidates with no prior CS experience who have strong teaching skills and are passionate about learning CS. Applicants with HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and Python experience will have priority to work with our advanced students.
