Job Purpose

 

Under general supervision, the IT Support Technician serves as the primary point of contact for users requiring technology assistance. This position installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and upgrades computer hardware, software applications, and peripheral equipment; provides user training and help desk support; manages technology inventory; performs routine maintenance; and recommends hardware and software acquisitions to support County operations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily:

 

· Provides technical support troubleshooting, and problem resolution for network, computer, printer, and software-related issues.

· Installs, configures, and deploys new computers, workstations, peripheral devices, and software applications.

· Diagnoses technical problems and implements effective solutions to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.

· Sets up and supports user accounts, passwords, email access, and other technology resources.

· Documents service requests, incidents, resolutions, and technical procedures in the appropriate ticketing or tracking system.

· Provides technical training and guidance to users; develops and updates training materials, user guides, and documentation.

· Performs routine maintenance, system updates, and software installations to ensure optimal performance and security.

· Monitors, tracks, and manages technology inventory, including equipment deployment, replacement, and disposal.

· Assists with evaluating hardware and software needs and makes recommendations for purchases, upgrades, and replacements.

· Coordinates with vendors, service providers, and internal departments to resolve technical issues and support technology initiatives.

· Serves as the Health & Human Services Security Officer by managing user access to job-related systems, generating security reports, and assisting with hardware/software acquisitions.

· Maintains compliance with County technology policies, procedures, and security standards.

· Supports employee onboarding and offboarding by configuring, deploying, and recovering technology equipment and access.

· Ensure adherence to IT security best practices, including least privilege and endpoint protection

· Performs assigned duties as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member when appointed or serving as a volunteer.

· Performs related duties as assigned.

Marginal Functions

 

The following duties are not essential functions of the position but may be performed as needed to support departmental operations:

 

• Performs general filing and administrative support tasks.

• Assists other staff members and work units as workload and time permit.

• Performs the duties of an IT Specialist in their absence

• Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience

 

Associate’s degree in Information Technology, complemented by vocational or technical training in computers, and one to two years of relevant experience or training in computer operation and repair, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and abilities

 

Requires knowledge of computer hardware, software applications, operating systems, networking concepts, and peripheral equipment. Ability to install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of computer and office technology.

Requires the ability to analyze technical problems, apply sound judgment, and interpret technical manuals, policies, and procedures to resolve issues effectively. Must be able to work independently and adapt methods to meet changing operational needs.

Requires the ability to communicate effectively and provide guidance, training, and support to users with varying levels of technical knowledge. Strong interpersonal skills are needed to assist and explain technical concepts clearly.

Requires the ability to compile, maintain, and manage data, records, and technical documentation accurately. Must be proficient in operating standard office equipment such as computers, printers, scanners, and copiers.

Requires basic mathematical ability to perform calculations and interpret data such as charts, graphs, and reports. Must exercise discretion, judgment, and problem-solving skills when evaluating information and resolving technical issues.
