The Transportation Engineer Trainee 1 position performs beginning-level training work to develop proficiency in the use of knowledge, skills, and abilities in highway/civil engineering. Employees in this class participate in an on-the-job training program under the supervision of Transportation Engineers. Assignments are varied and designed to develop the employee's ability to apply knowledge and skills in the civil engineering field for the solution of practical problems and to develop solutions that conform to departmental policies, rules, and regulations, as well as professional standards. Work is closely reviewed throughout the assignment for completeness and technical accuracy. Performs related duties as required.

Special Requirement: A valid license as a registered professional engineer in West Virginia is required within ten (10) years of employment.
