Design and Social Video Work Scholar
This position will operate at the intersection of social strategy, video, and design, providing support for the digital expression of Aperture. The primary areas of focus will include short-form video development for Aperture’s social accounts, social media asset creation, and animated design work. This role offers candidates a unique opportunity to work collaboratively across all that Aperture has to offer to its global digital audience and the opening of our new home on the Upper West Side. Candidates should demonstrate an interest in both visual storytelling and the role of design, social media, and video.
The Design and Social Video Work Scholar will report to the Senior Designer and work with the Managing Editor, Digital, to:
- Create social media assets to share for Aperture's books, magazines, programs, awards, and limited-edition prints. This will include both static and animated assets for Instagram Feed and Stores
- Pitch, storyboard, and execute short-form video content for Aperture's social channels in support of publications and programs
- Concept and execute design assets, as needed, for Aperture subbrands, initiatives, gallery, and bookstore
- Collaborate across digital, editorial, and communication teams to capitalize on content opportunities for social, including artists or authors being in town
- Research and present best-practices, industry trends, or visual inspiration for unique Aperture subbrands or initiatives

General Work Scholar Responsibilities
- Further develop knowledge of photography as well as Aperture’s mission, publications, exhibitions, and programs
- Participate in workshops and training sessions
- Complete pre-, mid-, and post-term evaluations
- Work occasional events and programs
Requirements
- Short-form video editing expertise and animation experience
- Expertise with Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, InDesign and working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator required (all on Mac). Figma experience a plus.
- Strong layout and typography skills, creativity, attention to detail, and self motivation will enhance a candidate’s application
- An excitement for visual storytelling
- One should also possess a willingness to triple-check everything before it is routed or shared
- Curiosity about different platforms, mediums, and visual content
- Interest in investigating solutions independently and to try out different visual solutions and approaches
