Quartermaster
Quartermasters are essential members of the Swamp Base summer staff team, responsible for managing, maintaining, and distributing all trek-related equipment and supplies. Working primarily in the trek equipment and gear warehouse, Quartermasters ensure that every crew and trek guide is properly outfitted, supported, and prepared for a safe and successful swamp adventure.
Key Responsibilities:
Gear Maintenance & Care
• Clean, repair, and properly store all paddling and program equipment, including canoes, kayaks, paddles, lifejackets, and safety gear.
• Conduct routine inspections to ensure equipment is safe, functional, and ready for use.
• Maintain organized gear storage areas, including daily cleaning and upkeep.
Crew Outfitting & Logistics
• Prepare and issue all gear required for each trek, including paddling equipment, first aid supplies, and meal kits.
• Load and unload the gear trailer, ensuring equipment is secured, clean, and properly staged for upcoming treks.
• Assist trek guides with gear needs and ensure crews receive accurate and complete equipment sets.
Warehouse Operations
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the program warehouse, including daily freezer and refrigerator checks for food safety.
• Track inventory levels and report equipment or supply needs to supervisors.
• Support efficient flow of gear in and out of the warehouse throughout the day.
Crew Support & Customer Service
• Greet returning crews and assist with unloading and cleaning gear.
• Help crews retrieve stored luggage and ensure a smooth end-of-trek experience.
• Provide friendly, helpful service to all participants and staff.
Qualifications
• Minimum age: 16 years old
• Driver’s license: Valid license with a clean driving record
• Transportation: Reliable personal vehicle with current insurance
• Communication: Access to a personal cell phone
• Physical ability: Able to lift and move items up to 50 lbs repeatedly
• Work ethic: Dependable, organized, and able to work in a fast-paced, outdoor-oriented environment
