Job Description
The Ralph Bunche International Affairs Center is seeking several versatile, energetic, communicative and creative students to join our team as Global Impact Assistants. This unique hybrid role combines the following functions: 
  • Front desk support including office administration and events, 
  • Study abroad advising support, and 
  • Social media management and content creation (both digital and hard copy)
— giving you the opportunity to develop professional skills in office operations and communications while promoting global engagement and international programs at Howard University. 
Start Date: TBD once FWS eligibility has been confirmed.
Availability: Must be available to work Fall and Springsemesters, with option to continue through summer (ending June 30, 2027).
Hours: 10–20 hours per week in person(Mon–Fri, 9:00 AM–5:00PM), with occasional evening events.
Eligibility: Open only to students with FederalWork Study funding.
 
Key Responsibilities
Office Administration & Program Support:
  • Provide front desk coverage, answer phones, greet visitors, and respond to all inquiries.
  • Handle clerical duties including filing, scanning, printing, and campus errands. 
  • Assist staff with event marketing and promotion, event setup/clean up, data entry, scheduling, and special projects as needed. 
  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Support programs such as Study Abroad among others by answering basic questions and directing students to the proper resources. 
Study Abroad Advising Support:
  • Serve as an initial point of contact for students interested in studying abroad by answering preliminary questions about program options, eligibility, application processes, deadlines, scholarships, and available resources.
  • Assist students with navigating Study Abroad resources and determining appropriate next steps, including referring students to Study Abroad staff for advising or questions requiring additional guidance.
  • Assist with Study Abroad outreach and promotion by creating flyers, graphics, social media content, and other digital or print materials for programs, application deadlines, scholarships, events, and student opportunities.
  • Support Study Abroad events and programming, including information sessions, Study Abroad Fairs, pre-departure orientations, tabling events, and other outreach activities.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating Study Abroad resources, including program information, frequently asked questions, promotional materials, Bunche Center website (WordPress) content, and student-facing communications.
  • Provide general administrative support for Study Abroad initiatives, including data entry, organizing materials, preparing event resources, and other special projects as needed.
Communications, Social Media, and Digital Content:
  • Manage and post to the Center’s social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook). 
  • Design digital and print flyers, graphics, and promotional materials using Canva or Adobe tools.
  • Distribute flyers and promotional materials around campus ahead of scheduled events.
  • Create and edit short videos and photo content for outreach.
  • Update the Bunche Center website with events, announcements, and news.
  • Assist in creating and sending email newsletters.
  • Track and report basic social media engagement and analytics to help strengthen outreach efforts. 
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 including Microsoft OfficeSuite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Teams for group communication and project management.
  • Skills in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) or similar design software. 
  • Familiarity with social media content strategies and posting tools are a plus but not required.
  • Basic photography and/orvideo editing experience preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills and comfortable speaking with all levels of campus community members.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, grammar, and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments from multiple staff members. 
  • Interest in or experience with international education, international affairs, and/or study abroad is a plus.
  • Strong sense of curiosity and a willingness to learn, ask questions, and pitch in whenever needed.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must be a Federal Work Study recipient (this will be confirmed with the Office of Financial Aid (OFA) or the Federal Work Study (FWS) office).
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally for event setup.
  • Available for occasional evening or weekend program support.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment, maintaining a professional demeanor at all times.
