Position Overview:
The Dance Program is seeking an organized, detail-oriented Costume & Inventory Liaison to assist with managing this season's dance productions. This role offers hands-on experience in costume logistics and professional level production support related to the dance industry. Key duties include:
Costume Organization: Sort, categorize, and track costumes, accessories, and supplies; maintain stock levels and report shortages or damage.
Fitting Support: Assist with scheduling between the dance program and the costume shoppe, manage costume fittings, ensure proper fit. Ability to perform minor repairs (sewing, hemming, etc.) is a bonus!
Costume Distribution: Prepare and organize costumes for rehearsals and performances; support costume changes and adjustments during rehearsals.
Inventory Audits: Conduct regular inventory checks and update records; assist with procurement.
Additional Tasks: Support the costume designer and production team with other costume-related needs.
Being the link between choreographer and costume team (communication).
Qualifications:
Passion for costume design, theater, or dance (experience is a plus).
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Basic sewing skills are a plus!
Ability to lift costumes/materials and work on your feet for extended periods.
Problem-solving skills for costume malfunctions or last-minute changes.
Working in a team environment
Being flexible and remaining focused in a fast-paced environment
Production knowledge (quick changes, how many pieces, where to place them, etc)
Fall 2026 Availability:
The FWS intern & Supervisor will work collaboratively to establish a consistent schedule that supports the needs of the position, with an anticipated commitment of approximately 8–10 hours per week between Monday - Saturday.

Dance Institute of Washington: 3400 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20010
Spring 2027 Availability:
Monday – Friday, 5pm–10pm and during Costume Shop Hours. Saturday availability during any performances or other Dance Programmatic Events.
