Description

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) is seeking to fill a Community Engagement Liaison position in the Community Outreach and Public Affairs division.

Location and hours:
This position is located in downtown Minneapolis at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 as well as onsite locations throughout the community. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the possibility of both evening and weekend hours depending on events.

In this position, you will:

  • Provide a regular presence in the community, build visibility, and establish relationships with organizations including, but not limited to schools, businesses, faith-based groups, non-profit organizations, and other community-based organizations. 
  • Coordinate events involving a variety of community partners to include, but not be limited to clothing or school supply drives, resource fairs, educational seminars, community roundtables, employment recruitment and mentorship.
  • Serve as a central point of contact between community partners and the Hennepin County Sheriff.
  • Attend community events with and on behalf of the Hennepin County Sheriff.
  • Model the agency’s mission, vision and strategic priorities while maintaining a focus on community needs.
  • Create and present for a variety of audiences on topics related to public safety.
  • Utilize community connections, special events and organized activities to recruit potential employees in a variety of positions for the agency from student explorers to interns, to full-time employees and leverage relationships to create positive mentorship opportunities.
  • Support the various divisions in the agency with outreach and engagement efforts. 
  • Work flexible hours as needed to participate in evening and weekend events.


Need to have:

  • One of the following:
    • Four or more years of experience in general administrative work related to the management of departmental/organizational operations. General administrative work is defined as the administration and/or management of programs, policies, and/or budgets. 
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration, or other field appropriate to the positions (planning, communications, marketing, organizational leadership and development, social sciences, or criminal justice).
