Social Media and Branding Assistant

The English Department at Howard University is developing a Content Management Team and is seeking dynamic and creative students to assist with the planning, implementation, creation, and promotion of all departmental social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. As a Social Media Assistant, you will play a key role in developing and executing strategies to enhance the department's online presence and engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Administrative Assistant and a team of 4 to strategize and brainstorm ideas for the department’s social media accounts.
  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of all departmental social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).
  • Edit and refine content to ensure quality and consistency before posting.
  • Assist in promoting events, departmental announcements, and other relevant information through social media.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase engagement and audience interaction across social media sites.
  • Bring creativity and individuality to the content, fostering an engaging and unique online presence for the department.
  • Manage the social media calendar to ensure consistent and timely posting of content.
  • Create visually appealing content, including graphics, videos, and posts, to support department initiatives.
  • Act as a content editor, ensuring all posts align with the department’s goals and branding.
  • Complete other relevant tasks as assigned to support the department’s digital marketing efforts.
  • Complete Other Administrative duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in social media management and digital marketing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative and innovative mindset with the ability to generate fresh ideas.
  • Experience with or a keen interest in content creation, editing, and visual design.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube) and their respective audiences.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience with social media tools
  • Knowledge of content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.).
